Finding Your Patron Once you know who your patron is, what they do, what they own & value now it’s time to search them out.
Look for similarities and groupings among them. You will find that they belong to communities. These communities are grouped around a variety of your Patron’s interests: professional, recreational, religious, social consciousness, etc.
From this identification of these communities you will find the venues where your Patrons:
1) Meet
2) Work
3) Vacation
4) Shop
5) Hang-out
As well as:
1) The events they attend
2) The publications they read
3) The galleries they frequent
Now that you know where to find your patron, it’s time to be specific and collect the contact information of the various venues.
As you can see, there are many other places where your art will be seen by your Patron. These are not necessarily galleries.
Thought To Ponder?
If your Patron doesn't buy from a gallery, where do they buy?
Tip of the Month
Before you approach a venue for your art, consider whether their partons are yours.
Exercise
"Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than in the one where they sprung up."
- Oliver Wendell Holmes
1) Share with you friends who your Patrons are and brainstorm with them where your Patrons can be found. Where do they:
Meet
Work
Vacation
Shop
Hang-out
As well as:
The events they attend
The publications they read
The galleries they frequent
2) With this information create a list of target venues and events with contact information.
Lesson Learned
Your Patrons congregate. Go where they congregate and optimize your marketing efforts for better results and get back to making more art.
